Curt received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, then lived in our nation’s capital for six years working as a legal assistant at two prominent D.C. law firms before furthering his education at Rutgers School of Law. After graduating from Rutgers, Curt had the honor of serving as a law clerk to New Jersey Superior Court Judge William L. Forester. At the conclusion of his clerkship, Curt dedicated himself to public service representing indigent clients at the public defender’s office in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for six years. As a public defender, Curt became no stranger to the courtroom. Starting with misdemeanors including DUIs, no-contact orders and lower level felony cases he honed his trial advocacy skills and later represented clients charged with serious complex felonies including violent felony offenses, sex offenses, major drug crimes, and homicides. His extensive jury trial experience with serious felony charges enabled him to become death penalty certified in Pennsylvania and he was counsel on a capital case. Curt experienced successes in both bench and jury trials, pre-trial evidentiary motions and he successfully litigated multiple appellate cases.
After a visit to Seattle, Curt decided to pack his bags and continue his life’s journey to the Pacific Northwest. He picked up where he left off, working first for a solo practicing Seattle criminal defense attorney before accepting a position at the Kitsap County Public Defender’s Office where he worked for five years representing indigent clients charged with all levels of felony offenses including drug offenses, felony DUIs, sex offenses, domestic violence cases, serious violent felony offenses, and homicides. In both Kitsap and King County, Curt has experienced success in jury trials and has successfully litigated pre-trial evidentiary motions.
Impressed with his reputation among lawyers and court staff as a hard-working and effective trial attorney, Templeton, Horton, Weibel & Broughton PLLC invited Curt to join the firm in 2020. Curt is accepting referrals for felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor criminal defense cases and will be using his skills as a seasoned trial lawyer to assist in the firm’s personal injury and civil litigation practices.
Curt lives in Bremerton and enjoys spending his time outdoors exploring the Pacific Northwest mostly on his bicycle or on the trails.
